Cover Letter: The rocket project is a unit where the math and science departments combine to teach the rocket project unit. The object for the unit is to teach students how to calculate max height, velocity, and flight time using SOH CAH TOA and Vectors. It was also to teach students about force of acceleration, gravity, and drag, and for them to design the most efficient rocket design knowing these things. The unit also taught us the definitions of Position, Velocity and Acceleration. Velocity is how fast you move from one point to another with respect to time. Acceleration is the rate of change to velocity with respect to time. And position is the length traveled by an object from the starting point. We used the quadratic equation to calculate how long our rocket was in the air. By using the process of SOH CAH TOA on right triangles, we were able to calculate the maximum height of our bottle rocket. We were able to do this by using an inclinometer to find one given side length and use that knowledge to determine the opposite side of the right triangle. . In the process of building rockets, we used the design engineering process which is a prompt to follow whenever you are designing and testing any variables. The steps are 1. Identify Problem 2. Explore 3. Design 4. Create 5. Try it out 6. Make it better. We followed these steps throughout the entire project which helped us better to and improve the process actual rocket scientists need to go through.
